Do you ever feel fatigued?  I used to think I was invincible.  Thankfully, that childish thought has, over time, weathered.

Earlier this month, I wrote about the need to create space in one's life—that is, to not control or plan every moment.  This week, I learned you can't always will your way through.  Sometimes, you lose.  I knew I had to give up when my dreams involved a poetry contest co-judged by Patrick Dempsey in which the poems took the form of pureed soup in thermoses (you could plug them into projectors, which would cast the words onto a screen).  At least it wasn't a repeat of last year's dream in which a cat told me she was a consultant to humans.

One can certainly feel mentally fatigued as well.  I feel weary of food blogs this week and little inclined to cook.  Instead, I came up with a few projects I would like to start soon, and I also leave you with a little video to remind us all that food is all about sharing and joy.  And the love of ketchup.

A week's worth of sickness is worth the reminder that we're human.  Have a great weekend!

Spring Projects:

  • Reviving the patio garden | Container herbs with cilantro, parsley, basil, chives, and rosemary.  Container cherry tomatoes.  Lettuces.  Pole beans.  Chile peppers.
  • DIY Apartment Work | Maybe some basic shelves, inspired by Corner Blog's idea that it's what you put on the shelf, not the shelf, that matters.  (The author, by the way, lives in my old neighborhood, Alamo Square Park. One of SF's finest!) Or some new balcony door curtains.
  • DIY Food Projects | Bringing back some oldies but goodies, like preserved lemons and sourdough starter.  It was sourdough starter, in fact, that was the awkward start of this blog.
