I love: (1) San Francisco food news; (2) Roger; and (3) Asian moms.*  Knowing this, Mike sent me these photos from my old city, where he's attending a tech conference.

Jack Hitt once told my college writing class that a coffee shop should be small enough so that you can hear every conversation in the room.  Ok, he was paraphrasing someone else, and I forgot the other half of the saying.  But it stuck with me.  I know there are ways to create your own coffee shop, so to speak, and that one cannot rely solely on urban design to create that effect.  So I'll keep trying.

Poster from Bun Mee, a banh mi shop that opened in Lower Pac Heights (let's be honest, it's Upper Fillmore) last spring.  The owner is a former attorney.  Read the small print!  I promise it doesn't involve arbitration clauses.

* Similar to Momma Tran, my mom claims Korean food is "so easy" to make.  She also says I make everything too difficult.  And she likes to relate how I cried a lot as a kid.  Well, I did.
